Songpress 1.4.1 has just been released. It is a maintenance release that fixes a small but nasty bug, which prevented users from selecting fonts.

With its first Linux version, Songpress 1.4 becomes cross-platform, and brings some cool new features to Windows users too.

Songpress for Linux does not support copying formatted songs and pasting them in other applications. However, you can export formatted songs as vector (or raster) images, and import them in your favorite DTP or graphics software. For example, Scribus or Inkscape.

What's new in Songpress 1.4?

• Linux version
• Export formatted songs as a vector image, in several formats: Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), Enhanced Metafile (EMF, Windows only)
• Usability improvements: paste chords from one verse to another (similar to Microsoft Word's paste format feature); improved chord editing
• Automatically check for updates
• Several bugs fixed

From Subversion to Mercurial (07-Sep-10 19:05)

We have just migrated our repository on Google Code from Subversion to Mercurial, preserving the whole project history.

The migration itself was simple and straightforward. The hard part was figuring it out how to perform the migration using a Windows client, because Google's directions omit to specify where to find an essential library, the svn-python bindings.

Songpress 1.3 released! (19-Jun-10 10:41)

Songpress 1.3 has been released. This version introduce some new interesting features:

• Chord simplification: for beginner guitarists. Songpress can detect if chords are too difficult, and offer to transpose the song to an easier key, automatically.
• HTML export: Songpress can generate HTML pages (or HTML snippets, to be embedded in your web pages) with formatted song. Pure HTML code, no images!

There are many bug fixes and small improvement as well:

• Installer was rewritten from scratch, to improve compatibility with some systems.
• Chords with a special bass note are now supported, e.g. D/F#.
• Resolved some issues with non-ASCII characters.
• Other small bugs fixed.

We are proud to release Songpress - Il Canzonatore 1.2.

New features in this release include:

• Support for songs in the "tab" format (text above chords)
• Auto-cleanup of songs with too many blank lines
• Bugfixes and improvements:
  • Fixed a bug with German notation
  • Nice error reporting dialog
